Digital marketing jobs are booming across the Richmond region.
The region’s economy has been on the mend for years, and it’s seen the rise of a new breed of digital marketers as they search for a way to reach a wide variety of consumers, businesses and governments.
In 2017, more than $11 million was generated in digital advertising through online platforms such as Google AdWords and Bing.
And in 2018, nearly $2.5 million was created by the digital advertising marketplaces HubSpot and Instacart, according to the Richmond Business Improvement District.
The digital marketing jobs market is expected to grow to $27.2 million by 2020, according an April 2018 report from the American Council of Learned Social Work.
The report said Richmond is the fastest-growing region in the country for job growth, with job growth of 4.2 percent in the first half of 2019.
The boom is driven in part by the region’s rapid growth in the number of businesses that can afford to pay digital ad rates.
In 2020, there were 7,000 to 8,000 jobs in digital marketing.
By 2021, there could be more than 30,000 digital marketing positions in the region, according the report.
But jobs in the industry are also being replaced with more complex tasks that require a mix of expertise and skills, according Michael H. Brown, a managing director with the Richmond Chamber of Commerce.
For instance, a job that was a software developer would be replaced with a digital marketing manager, according Brown.
The digital marketing role is still in its infancy in the Richmond area, he said.
Job seekers are looking for jobs that allow them to do work without the pressure of a full-time job, which often means a full day’s worth of work, he added.
Brown said the digital marketing industry is thriving in a way that he thinks was never expected.
It’s not just because of technology, he noted.
It’s also because of a shift in the way businesses are structured, Brown said.
There are more flexible working hours, and people are moving from full-day, part-time jobs to flexible hours.
It seems to me the digital marketers in Richmond are getting better at managing their own schedules, but also at being flexible.
They have to be flexible.
I think they’re better at it than they were a few years ago.
It doesn’t mean the digital jobs are coming back.
They’ll come back, and they’ll have to go through some training to get the skills and experience to get a job.
But he said, it does make a difference.
The more you have to spend time working on the technology side, the less you can focus on other areas, such as how to get people to do a good job and get people on your team.
Richmond is also seeing an increase in the amount of digital marketing candidates who are looking to move up to full-fledged positions in digital sales and marketing.
A job with a company like HubSpot, for example, pays $100,000, according a 2015 report from a research firm.
Job postings for a digital sales job posted in May 2018 for a Richmond sales job posting said a candidate must have “a minimum of a bachelor’s degree” and have at least a three-year sales experience.
A job listing for a full digital marketing position in Richmond on April 30, 2020, said the candidate must “have at least an undergraduate degree” with a minimum of two years of sales experience and “a demonstrated ability to manage and implement sales and digital marketing initiatives.”

The jobs are more than digital marketing opportunities.
They’re a way of life.
The Richmond region is booming and the region is doing a good amount of job creation, he explained.
There is more than a few people in the area who want to go into digital marketing or digital advertising, and the opportunity is really there.
There’s a lot of potential for growth.
The people that are looking are getting jobs in these new roles, McVays said.
And the more digital marketing roles are created, the more people can get opportunities in other industries.
